About Laurel Core Advisory
Registered Perth consultancy specialising in HR structure and people policy for small and medium businesses across Western Australia.
Registered business
Official registered business name: Laurel Core Advisory Pty Ltd
Established: 2012
Laurel Core Advisory began when founder Helen Laurel left a regional HR manager role to advise family-owned firms that could not justify a full internal HR team. Early work centred on Fremantle marine services and Perth wholesale businesses where informal supervision had worked for years until headcount crossed roughly fifteen staff.
By 2016 the practice moved to shared office space in Perth and added structured org reviews for multi-site trade contractors. Today the firm remains deliberately SME-focused: we do not pursue enterprise transformation programmes or software implementations.
How we work
We interview the people who actually allocate work — not only the owner — because reporting lines on paper often diverge from the floor. Documents are written in plain English suitable for staff circulation. We prefer short engagement scopes with clear deliverables over open-ended retainers unless ongoing policy support is genuinely needed.
Team
Helen Laurel — principal consultant, former HR manager in manufacturing and logistics, Chartered HR Institute member (Australia).
Marcus Chen — associate consultant, background in industrial relations advisory for WA construction SMEs.
Priya Nair — documentation specialist, converts interview notes into role summaries and handbook sections.
Values
Accuracy over speed when award context matters. Respect for trades, depot, and front-counter staff whose daily routines shape any structure change. Transparent quoting before interviews begin.
Community
We host an occasional peer breakfast for office managers in Perth’s inner suburbs and contribute articles to local business association newsletters on probation and leave recordkeeping.
