Opening a second site often copies the floor layout and equipment list but not the supervision habits that kept the first site running. Owners assume the same people will “just figure it out” because they did at the original location.

Signals you are already late

Duplicate purchasing approvals appear on invoices. Staff at site two call site one’s supervisor because they are unsure who signs leave. Rosters are built in spreadsheets with different column meanings at each depot.

What to document first

Reporting line for each site, who holds keys and alarm codes, who can authorise after-hours call-outs, and who speaks to staff about safety incidents before paperwork is filed. These items fit on one page before you commission a full role library.

Timing

Ideally six to ten weeks before keys are handed over. If you are already operating two sites with friction, a structure review can still proceed but interviews will take longer because staff may be cautious about naming confusion.

Perth context

Western Australian industrial sites often share casual labour across locations. Note which site pays the hours and which supervisor records them before you publish an org chart — payroll teams catch errors faster when the chart matches the timesheet owner.
